LOCAL FOOD FOR SCHOOLS PROGRAM

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Local Food For Schools?

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) today announced it has signed a cooperative agreement with Wisconsin for more than $3.4 million to increase their purchase of nutritious, local foods for school meal programs.

Through the Local Food for Schools Cooperative Agreement Program (LFS), the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction will purchase and distribute local and regional foods and beverages for schools to serve children through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP). These products will be healthy and unique to their geographic area, with the goal of improving child nutrition and building new relationships between schools and local farmers.

How do I apply to be part of this program?

You don't need to apply. You are already on the eligibility list through DPI. You just need to fill out a new customer form from Wisconsin Food Hub Cooperative (WFHC). You can email tara@wifoodhub.com to get a form.

How do I place an order?

We send out availability every Monday at 5 AM. Place your order by noon Tuesday via email to tara@wifoodhub.com. Delivery on Friday or the following week depending on your location. We will establish a route that works for WFHC and you when you place your first order.

How is the product paid for?

When your product arrives, please sign the Bill of Lading the driver has with him. WFHC will turn the signed Bill of Lading into DPI to be paid.

How long will this last?

WFHC should have an award that lasts through 2023. After that if the program isn't extended, you can buy from WFHC directly if it's working for you.

How can I find out more about the products available?

You can email Tara at tara@wifoodhub.com or call 715-227-1990. We can also set up appointments via zoom or in person to discuss minimally processed items.
